They call it the city of lights. It was also voted one of the most visited destinations in the world. Thousands flock to this amorous capital to gaze upon its monumental delights. Paris. It’s difficult not to fall in love with a city whose history is decorated with declarations of love. From the Nouvelle Vague, Marie Antoinette and the Louvre, there are countless reasons to fall in love with Paris and here are just 15 of them.
1.The Eiffel Tower
Without a doubt, the Eiffel Tower is one of the world’s most well known landmarks. Its iron spires shoot out from the ground with pride, the wholly Parisian construct has unmatched panoramic views of the city below. Beyond that, there is the rich history of the Eiffel Tower, with many things you probably didn’t know about the eiffel tower.
Paris is home to the Louvre, the Musée d’Orsay, the Pompidou Centre and the Musée de l’Orangerie and found within these treasure troves are works by some of the best French artists of our time: Monet, Sisley, Matisse, Renoir and Cézanne. Their work captures entirely the essence of France and they display it wonderfully on canvas.
French cinema evokes many emotions. From geniuses such as Godard or Truffaut who propelled French cinema and the nouvelle vague to the forefront of film means we can follow in their footsteps and get lost in the city. Capturing our imagination means watching Amélie and being filled with the desire to book a plane ticket.
There’s something truly French about sitting on a terrace with a croissant and coffee and Paris is the best place to do it. The visual image is almost innate and you’ll feel like you’re in a moody black and white film as you sip your hot coffee.
5. Its location
Paris is well located in Europe. It means that if you’re in Paris, one good thing about being so well positioned is that you can leave in any direction and end up in Spain, Germany or even Switzerland. Not bad, right?
6. The French cuisine
France is well known as a gastronomic hub and it has numerous restaurants all with Michelin stars. So why not indulge in some coq au vin or boeuf bourguignon. 10 points if you pronounce those correctly.
7. It’s fashion
Paris Fashion Week, Dior, Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent… it’s no surprise Paris is the fashion capital of the world. It makes people watching an excellent sport even if all you want to do is steal style tips.
8. Its architecture
All the apartments and buildings in Paris are old. The streets are lined with blocks of apartments from years gone by, their exteriors unchanged. It’s like walking through history. It even banned creating buildings higher than 7 stories high.
9. The Picasso Museum
I know we’ve mentioned art but the newly renovated and brilliant Picasso museum is reason enough to fall in love with Paris. Go and visit!
10. The Moulin Rouge
We’re not talking about the film. The Moulin Rouge is home to some great can-can shows and cabaret.
11. Bread & Cheese
Paris is home of the baguette. And, really, can you say no to breaded goods? And while we’re talking about bread, who can resist a block of brie of a little camembert?
12. Accordion players
Yep, this vintage instrument can be heard throughout squares and streets of Paris. Much more interesting than a guitar and definitely a lot cooler too.
Paris is full of cultural events all year round. There’s never not something to do. So you can never claim to be bored in this non-stop city!
Strike up a conversation with a local and you won’t be talking about the weather, finance or housing. You can live in a shoebox or a palace and you don’t get judged. Instead speak politics, philosophy and literature.
