Are you planning a trip to a sunny location, that is warm most days of the year, but you’re not sure where to go or where to start looking?  Chances are you’re thinking of someplace tropical, but with all the various options out there, how do you narrow it down?  One location that you’re sure to enjoy is Mexico and its many tourist destinations. The beautiful North American country, south of Texas, is one of the most popular of places to visit for a fun and relaxing vacation.  People enjoy Mexico for a large variety of reasons, especially for beach life, enjoying the ocean waters, tasting some of the best food on the planet and the world-class Tequila, as well as shopping and culture. Here are the top seven destinations to check out in Mexico.

Playa del Carmen

Located along the Caribbean Sea in the Riviera Maya, Playa del Carmen is a popular tourist destination in Mexico and one of the trendiest.   It is the place for many all-inclusive resorts as well as a favorite stop for cruise ships along its gorgeous beaches.   You’ll find lots of restaurants, boutiques, bars and other entertainment resources and a golf course that is world renown.  There are spider monkeys to enjoy and ancient ruins to discover. Many people who move to Mexico choose to live in Playa del Carmen.

Zihuatanejo

The fourth largest city in Guerrero is Zihuatanejo, also known as Zihua.   It became a major tourist attraction with the resort of Ixtapa. Located along the Pacific Coast northwest of Acapulco, it is found in a section called the Costa Grande where you’ll find beautiful beaches and an easygoing lifestyle.   A place to relax without the ritzy resort feel, Zihuatanejo has a traditional small-town feel that visitors love with cobblestone streets and local favorites such as restaurants, boutiques, artisan studios, bars, etc.  Zihuatanejo is a great place for a romantic vacation.

Cabo San Lucas

Cabos San Lucas, also known as Cabo, is another of Mexico’s resort cities that visitors love.  It is a place that many spring breakers love, but it’s also a place for people who can’t get enough of Mexico.  It features gorgeous white beaches, clear water, and the stone cliffs at Land’s End.  Located at the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula, it is located in the Baja California Sur, and it’s known for its beautiful beaches for scuba diving, swimming, snorkeling, diving, sunbathing, horseback riding and boating.  You’ll find lots of wildlife in Cabo including stingrays, whales, exotic birds, sharks, and marlin.   Golf courses and Villa Rentals are extremely popular in the area.   Cabo San Lucas is also an excellent place for children to enjoy.

Cancun

You’ll find that Cancun is one of the top-rated destinations in Mexico.  For many visitors, Cancun is where they go first.  Located in southeastern Mexico on the northeast coast of the Yucatan Peninsula on the Caribbean Sea, it is part of the resort destination area of the Riviera Maya.  Although Cancun is often the first place for spring breakers or people who want to party, it also contains quiet resorts where you can truly relax.   In addition, for those who enjoy culture, there are the Maya ruins such as Yamil Lu’um and El Rey.  Whether its Mayan culture, watersports, golfing, shopping, spas, restaurants, or entertainment, Cancun is the place to go where people return every year.

Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta, or PV as some call it, may not be as popular as Cancun, but it’s just as nice if not nicer.   Located in the Mexican city of Jalisco, PV offers something for everyone to love.  The beaches are famous, and for those who like diving, Bay of Banderas is a great place to do it. One of the most popular places in PV is the Malecon boardwalk where you can walk down the boardwalk and enjoy a large number of restaurants, bars, and boutiques.  In Old Vallarta, there’s cobblestone streets, favorite cafes, and restaurants that visitors love. It’s the place to be treated to plenty of handmade crafts.  The art galleries of Puerto Vallarta are well known, and many are located in the El Centro area.   For individuals who belong to the LGBT community, PV is a friendly place that offers a large and welcoming place for the community with a popular gay scene in the south-side area of Zona Romantica.

Cozumel

A favorite place in Mexico is an island located on the Caribbean Sea off the Yucatan Peninsula known as Cozumel.  San Miguel de Cozumel is the main town on the island.  Cozumel is a location that’s great for snorkeling and diving, and many people who travel to Cozumel are anxious to see it’s lovely underwater life, coral reefs, and white sandy beaches.  The east end of Cozumel is mostly underdeveloped.  However, a visitor can see sea beaches, huge rocks, and big waves.  As with many places in Mexico, the weather in Cozumel is pleasant for most of the year.

Mexico City

Although many people go to Mexico for its beaches and water activities, Mexico City is the urban location that many people come to for its culture and city life.   Mexico City is the capital of Mexico, and it is the most populated city in North America. There are ruins to visit in Tenochtitlan, and there are top-notch museums, restaurants, top boutiques, parks and other attractions in the city.  A visitor will also find boating excursions located in is ancient canals. Mexico City has been known for having a variety of problems associated with its urban nature, but it’s become a place that is experiencing a cultural rebirth and is drawing more and more visitors to the region.

No matter what location in Mexico you choose, you’re sure to enjoy any of these six locations whether its the beaches of Puerto Vallarta and Cancun or the city life of Mexico City.   After visiting one, you’ll probably want to visit more, but these top seven destinations in Mexico are among the most popular to visit.
