Arizona is a state frequented by snowbirds, but fall is often overlooked. Residents of Arizona, like Don Dirren and his family, know that autumn is one of the best times to be in the Grand Canyon State. Dirren recently discussed the top five places to visit if you’re in Arizona this fall.
“Flagstaff is one of my favorite places to visit in the Fall,” Don Dirren said. “The weather is cooler, so you get that true fall feeling you may not find in southern Arizona. The yellow pop of the Aspens makes it even more beautiful.”
Dirren explained that a hike along the Aspen Nature Lollipop Trail is an absolute must when visiting Flagstaff in the fall. He added that another unforgettable place to view the fall colors is along the Verde Canyon Railroad. This railroad offers a tour of the fall colors, during which you can take in the views from a historic train car. The most ideal time of year to take the tour is during October and November.
“No visit to Arizona in fall is complete without a visit to Apple Annie’s. This orchard offers all the fall offerings tourists and locals are seeking, including a corn maze, pumpkin patch, and more. The you-pick fields are especially fun for families.
Don Dirren explained that renting a cabin in Oak Creek, near Sedona, is a top way to experience fall in this state. He suggested Orchard Canyon for its cozy cabins surrounded by nature or the treehouses at Forest Houses Resort.
Finally, Dirren suggested visiting the Snowbowl. This area in Flagstaff is known for its winter sports, but those who are in the know visit in the fall months as well. Visitors can ride the ski lift through the fall foliage, viewing nature from an entirely different angle.
“Many people visit Arizona in the winter months because it’s warmer than northern states, but they’re truly missing out on how spectacular fall can be,” Don Dirren said. “Watching the Aspens change colors and the temperatures become more refreshing in northern areas is something residents look forward to every year.”
Dirren suggested visiting Arizona in October or November to view the best fall foliage and an abundance of activities, from Apple Annie’s to the Verde Canyon Railroad and beyond.
